The closest town to the North Rim is Kanab, Utah, a 1.5 hour drive, so there is definitely a time advantage to staying inside the national park. It sits right at the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park, but you still have to drive at least 15 minutes, with light traffic, to get to the South Rim’s village area and trails.
